ALEJANDRO CIFUENTES, PhD, is Full Research Professor at the National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain. He has authored more than 200 SCI papers and is Editor of two journals: TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry and Electrophoresis. Dr. Cifuentes was the first to define the new discipline of foodomics in an SCI journal. His research centers on the development of advanced analytical methods for foodomics, food quality and safety, as well as the isolation and identification of biologically active natural products.

SPEND YOUR $$ ON ANOTHER LH BOOK- NOT THIS ONE!

All I can say -- I was SO ANGRY while reading this book that I had to stop 3 different times before finishing it & the book is a really thin book.
The independent wife is basically an abused wife; she put up with a man who dominated & humiliated her with his overbearing Male Chauvanist Pig routine. He walked out on a marriage after she had a miscarriage, told that when she was woman enough to handle him, to call... yada yada yada. This woman brought herself up from the bootstraps only to encounter this JERK 7 years later as her boss.
Once he learned her identity, the stalking, harrassing, dominating behaviour began again. This time, she tried to run but he blocked her from leaving, got her fired from her job, confiscated her furniture & moved her into his apartment without so much as a 'by your leave'...
All I can say was -- what romance? I wanted to fight Rhydon (the husband)& beat him with a baseball bat. What a jerk? Who could love that?
Go read SON OF THE MORNING or KILL AND TELL -- don't waste your time with this one, please!

An Independent Wife by Linda Howard

The book itself is in fine condition, and I am pleased with the seller.
I received the book promptly, and it was packaged well.
This is one of Ms. Howard's early works, so it isn't great. However, it is a must if you collect her works. The story line is cute but predictable. It's a fast read - a good beach book.

Call me crazy but I loved this book

I have been a Linda Howard fan for years and when I read this book I know why. so ok the Rhy is controlling. But I like the strong alpha male in my book reading. What I read was the story of an insecure girl who married "the perfect" man for the wrong reasons. He leaves for reasons you discover in the story. But leaving was good because Sally finally comes into her own self worth. She gets off her butt and finally does something worth while. Now that she is where she wants to be she is now ready for the right love at the right time. Enter Rhy. He can't believe this spitefire is his wife and he falls in love all over again. He wants to put her in a plastic bubble and protect her. Okay, he's out of line but he learns and together they learn that love can conquer all.

We were lucky to find this book...

My husband and I were married last year. His family is Jewish and mine is Methodist. We were having a hard time finding a ceremony that would honor both cultures without having either (a) no mention of Christ or (b) "Christ" uttered every third word. Our minister recommended this book.

We were a little leery, as the title is "Christian Weddings," but it was an excellent resource for us. It gives you many different versions of each section of the ceremony (i.e. exchanging of rings, vows, greeting, etc). Assuming your minister will work with you, you can put a ceremony together by picking and choosing what you like.

We were able to do that--and our ceremony was beautiful. Most important, we were both very comfortable with it.

A book about Glaziers? Yes.

Reading this book gave me the same happy feeling I used to get when Mr. Rogers took me around the neighborhood to visit the postman and plumber. Being so caught up in my own work, I seldom take note of what everyone else in the world is up to.

In the opening pages, Little writes this: "Most people don't think about the work that goes into windows -- they look through them, not at them -- but that's part of the point. A good glazier doesn't leave any evidence of his or her work. All the time and effort that went into it, all the elbow grease and careful accuracy, become as invisible as the glass."

The author then goes on to show us the invisible, with such genuine fascination that I found myself right there with her, staring up in bewilderment at those people dangling from the sides of buildings.

For many readers this book will serve as a useful guide to the trade. For others, like me, it will be a reminder to open our eyes a little wider on the world.

Just Right for Someone Checking Out This Career

This little ebook is perfect for checking out my interest in possibly going into a new career. There's some history, and some practical information. Links to other sites to find out about qualifications and potential pay scales. I especially appreciated the personal stories told by different people that work in the glass trade. It showed me that there are different routes to take, even within working with glass, like the artisan work and restoring stain glass windows. The book was the right size to get a good idea what was involved in getting into this career without getting bogged down in too much detail.

Exactly what it needs to be

Another very useful book from this author. Very easy to read and informative. The introduction and background information is quite interesting, entertaining. And the interviews, especially, give a great idea of the possibilities of the job. I particularly enjoyed reading that of the one woman glazier, as it appears women are fairly uncommon in this field. All, very well done.

About the Author
Sarah Harding has been a Tibetan Buddhist translator and practitioner since 1974. She became a student of the late master Kalu Rinpoche, and in 1980, she completed the traditional three-year retreat under his guidance. Since then, she has been a teacher and translator. Her publications include Machik's Complete Explanation, The Treasury of Knowledge: Book Eight, and The Life and Revelations of Pema Lingpa. She is a fellow at the Tsadra Foundation and has been on the faculty of Naropa University for nearly twenty years.

The Chod of Mahamudra - Machik's complete explanation

Machik Labron, historically a Tibetan woman (11th-12th century) and contemporary of Milarepa, was an adept, an outstanding teacher, a mother, as well as the founder of a unique transmission lineage known as the Chod of Mahamudra.

Chod (Severance) is based on the Prajnaparamita teachings of Buddhist mahayana, and refers to cutting through the grasping at a self and its afflictions. Chod is particularly famous for its teaching on transforming the aggregates of self into an offering of food for demons, as a compassionate act of self-sacrifice.

"With the hook of compassion I catch those evil spirits. Offering them my warm flesh and warm blood as food, through the kindness and compassion of bodhichitta, I transform the way they see everything, and make them my disciples." (Machik Labdron)

The general attitude of the Chod practice is that the meditator does not renounce the world by protecting him- or herself from afflictive emotions, but deliberately evokes these emotions by entering situations or encountering objects that will make them arise, in order to cut through (chod) them and use them on the path of meditation.

This is an excellent book that covers all aspects of Chod.The internal workings of your physical and energetic(channels,chakras etc) anatomy are explained by Machik to her student.There are detailed explanations from the founder to her students and son on the practice and the stages you encounter in your Chod practice.

Skip the Intro

The introduction has, like many of the translator's work, a distracting feminist slant. Rather than taking Tibet Buddhism as it is, it is instead seen through the lens of Western sexism. When Machik is told of her destiny she is surprised, like all of us would be. She doubts herself, as all of us would. The translator views this as "a bout of female low self esteem". It might actually be a bout of "low self esteem" or self doubt that is universal in nature. Later, when Machik comes to achieve her compassionate embrace of all beings, she is able to do that in a way that is "particularly feminine and motherly" and "lives up to the feminine stereotype of nurturing and nourishing." But that stereotype is not Tibetan, it is Harding's. In Tibetan tantra yab-yum the Mother Diety is Wisdom and the Father is Compassion. The view of emptiness is the feminine and the bodhicitta is masculine. So, these and other feminist views not only distract they can distort the value of this work. Skip the introduction.
