About the Author
Marc Canter is an amateur photographer and the owner and general manager of the legendary rock 'n' roll hangout, Canter's Deli, in Los Angeles, California. He has been friends with Slash for over 30 years, and had unlimited access to the formative years of one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Guns N' Roses. An avid collector, Canter is proud and excited to share his memories with the public for the first time. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Feels like you're there

For those of us who are too young to have seen GNR in their heyday, this is a must-have book. It's mainly photos and memorabilia from the live shows, but most of the things that happened that night, or that they said onstage are recorded also, giving you a sense of being there, instead of just looking at a bunch of photos. There are also quotes from a lot of the people they knew around that time, giving great insight into the making of Appetite for Destruction, and what it was like working with the guys in the band. It gives a sense of what it was like to be at their shows, what their attitude about fame was at the time, and how it all came together. My personal favorite part is the story of how they almost had to sign with Chrysalis records, because they told this woman who worked there that if she walked naked down to Tower Video, they'd sign with them! At the time Geffen was obviously their top choice for creative freedom, so it's like, what the heck were you thinking?! But that's the GNR we know and love, after all. On the downside, although the book is advertised as interactive, the site that has all of the extra videos and stuff no longer works, which is a disappointment. There's also a lot of typos, spelling errors, and words left out in places, but overall Marc Canter put together a great book. (Although, most of the photos are actually by Jack Lue, the photographer who took the most iconic shots of the band, not Marc)! Still, great book.

A must have for die hard Guns fans!

I grew up listening to Guns! (The original lineup) They are my favourite band! I was staying up late watching the "Head Banger" special on MTV one night when the music video "Welcome To The Jungle" aired on the network. Shortly after that, my Father & I went to our local record store to purchase Appetite on Vinyl. Looking at these photo's brings back fond memories from my childhood. As a fan, I loved Guns from the time they became a household name in "88" until the very end. ("97") I'm glad Marc Canter created this book. Marc began photographing Slash in "82". Then he photograph the band through 1988. I'm not afraid to admit this, I almost cried because I miss the original lineup so much! This is a must have for die hard Guns fans!

The Making of a Rock N' Roll band...

I thought that Reckless Road was very informative as to how the band took over the Sunset Strip music scene, giving a look at their lives and just how many people are still around to tell stories about it. To be honest, it could be about the making of Appetite from a raw, gritty, energetic point, since the book bears many quality photos covering nearly all of their live shows in L.A. Strippers, old friends, manager, and A&R scouts are there to share a lot about GNR and their wild antics. As for the album, well, any Guns N' Roses fan by now knows the songs and the stories behind those songs by heart. (This being 2014, that is.) Either that or Appetite for Destruction kind of just speaks for itself. Still, a great book that lets you appreciate the first fan of Guns N' Roses' work, as well as Marc's own work. I'm proud to have this book on my shelf. There just aren't bands like this anymore.
